A Faithful Witness to History The Chain Lake District Missionary Baptist Association was organized in 1843, making it the oldest such group in the state of Michigan. It is named after the historic Chain Lake Baptist Church in Cassopolis, MI, one of the oldest African-American churches in the United States. Today, Chain Lake District has 46 member churches throughout western and south-central Michigan. The map at right gives a snapshot of District members.
